Liberty is the greatest cause in the battleground of human endeavor. Thus the declaration of Patrick Henry, "Give me liberty or give me death." Our constitution was created with the express intent of securing the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. Our willingness to defend our freedom, faith, and families will demonstrate the amount of courage that we have and the degree to which we understand and appreciate what we are blessed with. Ignorance and apathy from within will threaten our nation as much as any threat from the outside. Threats to our freedom from the outside consisting of tyranny, oppression, and other forms of inhumanity have been embodied in dictatorships, communism, and fascism. In today’s world radical jihadism has risen to the forefront of the enemies of freedom on a global scale. In addition to the essential use of our military force to oppose aggression, we must also prevail in the battle of ideas if we are to come out victorious in the end. Our liberty and allegiance to our constitution are irrefutably tied together. Our liberty depends upon a sovereign people upholding our Constitution and the ideals upon which it is founded. War on Terror and Iraq The administration and congress of the United States together with a solid coalition of international partners agreed that Saddam Hussein and his rogue regime had not measured up in even a minimal way in demonstrating a commitment to peace and an unqualified willingness to accept and fulfill the provisions in the treaty from Desert Storm. The disdain and disregard for the subsequent UN resolutions by Saddam and his regime led to a unified descision among the coalition partners that Saddam needed to be deposed. In the aftermath of the initial battles of Operation Freedom that were won with ease, when faced with a brutal criminal element that is determined to attain through atrocious acts of savagery what they have no chance of achieving by peaceful popular support President Bush has said, "not on my watch." The people of Iraq have shown their desires and determination by steadily advancing the cause of freedom and democracy. In the face of ferocious barbarity, the Iraqi people turned out in force two years ago and overwhelmingly voted in support of their country's new constitution. There were 12 of 18 provinces with greater than 90% voting in favor of the new democratic constitution. We must accept the responsibility to help secure for the men, women, and children in Iraq a bright prospect of lasting freedom, stability, and peace with the hope and the expectation that it will serve as a model of freedom and tolerance for the region and help to advance the cause of peace throughout the world. Immigration In order to maintain our sovereignty, which is essential to maintaining our Constitution and the liberties it is designed to secure, we must have orderly immigration and compliance with our laws. Effective enforcement must include border control with fencing in areas of high vulnerability coupled with electronic surveillance, interdiction through employment verification, and empowerment of our entire law enforcement apparatus in the nation to apprehend and deport offenders. These things must be the first order of business and then Congress must act with regards with those who are already here in such a way as not to reward those who have broken our laws with a special pathway to citizenship that those who are complying with our laws do not have.
